"Becoming Jane Eyre," by Sheila Kohler:

A beautifully imagined tale of the Bronte sisters and the writing of Jane Eyre

The year is 1846. In a cold parsonage on the gloomy Yorkshire moors, a family seems cursed with disaster. A mother and two children dead. A father sick, without fortune, and hardened by the loss of his two most beloved family members. A son destroyed by alcohol and opiates. And three strong, intelligent young women, reduced to poverty and spinsterhood, with nothing to save them from their fate. Nothing, that is, except their remarkable literary talent.

So unfolds the story of the Brontë sisters. At its center are Charlotte and the writing of Jane Eyre. Delicately unraveling the connections between one of fiction's most indelible heroines and the remarkable woman who created her, Sheila Kohler's Becoming Jane Eyre will appeal to fans of historical fiction and, of course, the millions of readers who adore Jane Eyre.

Brief Nephew Update
by Elizabeth ([info]smittythehobbit)
at December 20th, 2009 (10:32 pm)

I said I was back and that was like 12/4 and now it's 12/21. XD I suppose I lied, little blog. I'm sorry. =/

My days have been packed with nephew stuff. Keeping the dog off him, reading pop up books, etc etc. It's been a lot of fun but I don't know if people would appreciate photos of my 1.5 year old nephew drooling crackers down his front. :P

He just gets cuter as time goes by. I'm trying to savor these moments because I'm sure he'll become a surely teenager sooner that I expect. And instead of loving trains and being fascinated by my puppy, he'll hate spending the holidays with his dumb grandparents instead of at home with his buddies.

Oh well. Until then, a brief nephew cuteness update:

+ Whenever he sees a train or thinks about trains, he says "choo choo". Sometimes, he says it in his sleep.

+ When he sees Riley or pictures of dogs, he says "woof woof woof". For cats, he says "hi". I assume this is because my mom always says "can you say 'hi' to the kitty?", instead of "meow meow".

+ He calls my sister, my mother, AND me "Ma". I think this is a case of schema gone wild.

+ Whenever I'm playing cars with him, he never plays with the car. He always hands it to me and then points where he thinks I ought to play with it. Even my 1.5 year old nephew recognizes my 1337 car skillz. :P

+ He thinks leaves and frogs are fish. By which, I mean that when he sees leaves or frogs, he says fish. I still think that's impressive for his age. :)

+ He doesn't know the different between throwing toys for Riley and throwing them AT Riley. My mom had to hide all of Riley's hard toys because someone kept throwing them in pup pup's face. (Hint: not me) I know that's not really cute but I like that he loves playing with Riley so much.

+ Riley's gotten spoiled by Tony throwing out all his toys for him. He'll only play with any one toy for about 5 seconds and then he sits and waits for the next one to come out ....
